This is a very simple and affordable way to make clippies for your little girl's hair - especailly if you're like me and can't make pretty bows! They make wonderful presents for a niece, godchild, or grandchild too!
Don't forget to enter the LadyBug Clippie GIVEAWAY!
Details are near the bottom of this post!
REMEMBER: you can always click on a picture to ZOOM in!
Materials needed:
3/8" grosgrain ribbon
(2) 1 3/4" metal clips
2 ladybug appliques
glue gun & glue sticks
scissors
x-acto knife or razor blade
lighter or fray check
4 1/2" w x 3" l piece of card stock
Shopping Tips:
Buy your supplies on sale. I found the ribbon I'm using 2/$1 at Michael's. They have excellent sales on their ribbon pretty often.
I bought the metal clips in-store at Sally's for dirt cheap. I can't remember exactly, but I want to say they were $9.99 for a box of 200? They were on sale and I have a Sally's discount card so I got a very good deal on them!
I bought the ladybug appliques online at the Boutique Store on Ebay. I got 40 of them for $6.50. Shipping is $3 - but you can save money by combining shipping. Boutique Store has a ton of cute inexpensive appliques that you can turn into sweet little clippies to match every outfit in your child's closet!
But trying looking around Ebay and Etsy for better prices - you just might find somewhere cheaper!
Total Price for one set:
.24¢ for each ladybug applique
.5¢ for each clip
.05¢ for 2 pieces of 4 3/4" ribbon
-------------------------
.63¢ for the set!
THANK YOU to my FB Fans for figuring out the ribbon price for me!!
Oh and don't forget to figure in your time too - about 10/15 minutes! That's including the mess-ups!
Okay here we go!
1. Cut a piece of ribbon around 4 3/4" long.
2.Use fray check or a lighter to seal the ends.
3. Squeeze the clip open, and put a strip of hot glue on the bottom prong as in picture 2.
4. Place the ribbon over the strip of hot glue, gently rub it in place.
5. Flip the clip over, add another strip of hot glue on the same prong, then fold the ribbon over and gently rub it in place.
Tip: Try not to pull the ribbon too tight or it'll become skewed. I've messed up a lot of clippies by pulling too tight on the ribbon! Take your time too, once that hot glue sets, you really can't pull up the ribbon and try again!
6. Put a small amount of hot glue near the clip's spring - right where the arrow is pointing in the 1st picture.
7. Fold the ribbon over, and hold in place with your thumb until the glue dries - refer to picture 2.
8. Following the arrow in picture 3, apply a strip of hot glue to the last bit of ribbon.
9. Fold the ribbon over, and gently rub in place.
10. Position the ladybug applique however you like using hot glue.
11. Repeat all the steps for the second ladybug clippie.
12. To make a cute display card, cut four lines in the card stock with the x-acto knife or a razor blade (refer to the 3rd picture), then just clip the LadyBug clippies in place!
Personalize your decorative display card: buy blank card stock and print your own design on the card!
I might try that next time!
